Original concept- A milling machine is a device designed to machine solid materials. It can either be a horizontal or vertical machine with a fixed cutting tools that pass by the workpiece that is moved around the tools to produce the cuts.

The opposite would be the drill press where the workpiece is stationary and the drill moves and cuts.
